Voltaris by contrast was a bit too eager to overcome his fear, so much so that he was pushing himself and his Pokémon to the point of exhaustion(which had contributed to his sister's hesitance to becoming a flying type specialist). It had gotten so bad to the point where he and his Pokémon were collapsing mid-battle. Eventually Simoon had to sit him down and tell him that while he appreciates the effort and commitment he can't rush becoming a master and to let his body and his Pokémon rest. Voltaris being the 7 year-old kid that he is(at the time) didn't listen and continued to push himself and his Pokémon to the brink. One day while training a looming cloud descend upon Voltaris, from that cloud came Zekrom. Voltars ever so eager challenge and suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Deep Black Pokémon. Thunder strikes that shattered the earth headed for Voltaris. He tried to escape but he simply wasn't fast enough, as the lighting was about to strike him and cut his journey short Simoon came just in the nick of time with his Garchomp to block the hit. Zekrom having seen Voltaris learned his lesson left and after that day Voltaris stopped pushing him self and his pokemon too hard.
Voltaris's gym challenge is a test of patience. All you need to do is simply snap a photo of his Pincurchin while trapped in a thunderstorm with electric pokemon that are hunting you down. You get three chances to capture a picture, fail all three and you fail the gym challenge. After passing all three you will either be told to go to his sister to complete her challenges or instructed to head into the battle facility to face them in a double battle.
