it is the 30th millenium, the EMPEROR OF MANKIND, having recently unified his home planet of NEW BARK with his powerful thunder warriors, planned a GREAT CRUSADE to conquer the stars, unify the scattered human planets under one banner, and allow mankind it's manifest destiny as the rightful ruler of the stars.
To do this, The Emperor created twenty primarchs from his own genetic code - his sons. From them he created the twenty legions of SPACE MARINES - superhuman soldiers who would be faster, stronger, and tougher than anything the universe could throw at them.
But all was not well, the dark gods of CHAOS, KHORNE, TZEENTCH, NURGLE, and SLANEESH had seen the emperor dilligently working, and in an attempt to stop his plans, kidnapped his sons from within the warp and scattered them throught the galaxy. However, The Emperor would not let this set him back, he finished the space marines, and set off from New Bark anyway. With the intent to find his lost sons on the way.
With his companion MALCADOR at his side, The Emperor left NEW BARK for the nearby planet of CHERRYGROVE, where he was to meet up with a contact who would help him find a relic he needed to continue his quest - THE EGG OF MYSTERY.
