I have noticed this weird flux back in ORAS where everyone decided Gen 3 was their favourite and I don't know if that's just because all the new posters started with RSE or what. I think it's likely this and a lot of people who grew up with that gen have hit the age where they are realizing they just dont enjoy pokemon anymore so they are blaming the company.
People like me who are on the ride for ever just want some new forms/mons and new tms/tutors so I can have more online battle options. We're hard to displease.
USM should be fine. If they confirm tutors it'll be a massive success.
