No it's not about that, but rather the Pokemon Go fanbase who are strictly Go players. Is this phenomenon actually that widespread? From what I heard there's shit like those people thinking Niantic made Pokemon or how there's literal blindness for future gens that they believe things like Darkrai being fake.
I can actually tell an anecdote - a local radio here keep talking about Pokemon Go, clearly not knowing about the mainline games and have no idea how Pokemon works, with the SM anime being their only reference to "future" works but they don't know stuff like Z moves or Mega evolution, but I didn't know it was that rampant.
Personally, I think new audience from mainline games are better than new audience from mobiles. The former has bearable autism.
