The Grand Festival arc was neat. I do like the Contests over the Performances in XY. Even though the goals of winning are still abstracted a bit, I can follow them pretty well and understand why a person wins over someone else. I never understood why Serena had any advantage over anyone else; they looked nice at least. I'm sure they perfected the format for the show with DP, but they're neat here.
With this being the (sort of) end of May's non-BF arc, it was an enjoyable ride. She really does stand up as a deuteragonist to Ash, especially in Advanced Battle. Pic related: Contestshipping becomes end game.
