Ash and Serena met as children at Professor Oak's summer camp when Serena hurt her leg, Ash helped her out and she's had a romantic fantasy about him ever since.
Then she saw him save a Garchomp on national TV and set out to find him. Although when she did he didn't remember her right away because he clearly didn't put as much importance on their meeting.
