Overrated picks:
>Magikarp
You can evolve it using daycare, but it's honestly not worth it. All its good moves are special so you're maining Bubblebeam until you get surf. The lack of STAB moves and slow level up group suck.
>Bulbasaur
Doesn't learn Razor Leaf until level 30 and Sleep Powder level 55. Oddish is better.
>Dratini
No STAB, bad levelup moves, slow level group. Not worth it.
>Ghastly
Objectively inferior to Kadabra. This isn't gen 2.
>Aerodactyy
Can't learn Rock Slide or Earthquake. This isn't gen 3.
>Machop
It's too slow. Low Kick is nice early on, but it's also your best move. Mankey is better in Yellow but has the same problem. Only Hitmonlee gets good fighting moves.
>Hitmonlee
Fighting types suck in gen 1. Don't bother.
Disappointing picks:
>Exeggcute
Would have been amazing if it could learn Mega Drain. It's terrible until you evolve it to Exeguttor, at which point you can't learn Sleep Powder anymore. You can use it in place of Kadabra, but why?
>Geodude/Rhyhorn
Too slow for in-game battles. It's a shame since they get really good offensive moves.
>Jynx
A slightly weaker Kadabra that learns Ice Punch. If only it learned psychic moves by levelup...
>Tauros
Almost impossible to catch, levels up slow, and needs TMs to shine. It's not worth the trouble.
>Staryu
A good Pokemon that comes late and eats all your TMs. For water-types, you get handed a Lapras way earlier. You can use it to replace Kadabra, but why?
