I probably got a little interested in it, myself, when I read Warriors and Guardians of Ga'Hoole as a kid, and it's lasted throughout (my final project for a fiction-writing course in college was from the perspective of a feathered velociraptor, a small, social predator, cared for but ultimately confined with limited companionship in a lab).
>biological realityInterestingly enough, there's a surprising amount of discussion among animal welfare advocates about how anthropomorphic is *too* anthropomorphic when interpreting animal behavior. Like, yes, snakes aren't human and it's dangerous for all involved to believe they think and feel like us, but they're also capable of more complexity than "if food then approach food GOTO 10," as the reaction to hyper-anthropomorphization tends to be.
