That being said, I'm not sure what I'd prefer for a regional variant when it comes to Dragonite. With regional evolution now a thing, they could just release a branch evolution that's Dragon/Fairy and closer to Dragonair in aesthetic.
Any number of ways really to "update" the design without technically offending people's childhood.
