Mega evolution allowed a Pokemon to go beyond the limits of their normal evolutionary limits, but only during a relatively short time in battle. The designers were free to take established fully evolved Pokemon and give them a second form without actually saying "this is a new evolution in the line," but instead with the goal being to enhance an existing Pokemon. I sincerely believe that the only people that dislike mega evolution are people that didn't get many for Pokemon they like, because they were essentially like getting your bro a second time or a third in the case of Mewtwo and Charizard.
