Experiment with colors and brushes, composition, the layout of whatever you're working on, have some time set aside to go wild and learn stuff at a pace that works best for you. And on the topic of time, take breaks. Even a 15 minute pause can help prevent burnout in an art session. Something like pic related, being the result of continuous practice, sketching, and scripting before the pen ever started moving, took around an hour to get sketched out and another two to finish. You bet your sweet ass there were breaks inbetween.
Look for reference images to things you're new to drawing as well, had to drill myself on that. Lord knows how the cover pages for Ch8 and 14 would've looked if I tried without any.
