I don't delve into Pokemon that often and tend to ignore it a lot in favor of other interests, but during those days or weeks (hell, sometimes it's been months) where I'm even more down than usual or have a ton of emotional shit going on irl I'd just drop my other hobbies and social platforms and just immerse myself in Pokemon for a bit.
The games don't induce any stress for me and the online community is relatively drama-free (as long as you know where to go and what to avoid) and it just really helps to me calm down and seperate myself from anything that's eating away at me, so I immerse myself in some happy imaginary world, while I also try to sort out the shit going on in my life and in my head on my own terms. I'm going through one of these "down times" right now because of some nasty stuff that went down with a girl I was in love with and was also my one-sided best friend, hence the reason for me even browsing /vp/ right now in the first place.
I used to beat myself up over it because I thought it was pretty pathetic, it's actually okay to indulge in some imaginary escapism every now and then. As long as you don't let it take over your life, it's good to have SOMETHING to make you feel calm and safe and to keep those gloomy thoughts at bay.
