It does matter. In fact, Gen1 starters were made around the idea of rock-paper-scissor and the whole story of Blue picking the starter stronger to yours won't work otherwise

you can keep crying about dragon type charizard and steel type blastoise all you want, but it won't happen because it will imbalance the entire trio

According to ORAS and USUM, Pokemon has multiple timelines and each one of them is canon.
anything outside Gamefreak is not canon, including Origins (RIP Charizard X) and mobile crap.

but going by Red/Green artworks (which are all made by Sugimori too btw), Red started with Bulbasaur.
Gamefreak never did an artwork of Red having Charizard exclusively but they did several artworks of Red having Bulbasaur.

but they put her in LGPE now.

but unlike Smash or her figurine, she doesn't wear the FRLG outfit, she wore the Gen1 artworks outfit which is what the manga is based on.

Blue only appeared in the original artworks, Red/Green guidebook, Pocket Monsters (as a male) and the main manga and in all of these versions she had Squirtle.

I don't think when people use that quote they mean it's flawless.

Pokemon used to look more monstrous rather than friendly and looking at some artworks, Pokemon wasn't that child-friendly looking either. Some of them have a feeling that Pokemon is a serious game.

The manga went from there and closely followed the original themes and made the manga to be both dark and serious, which is also what adults prefer over the stupidly childish Anime/Origins
