It's because it wasted 3+ years of Ash development after all the build up from OS-DP.
You may call me a faggot but seriously I was literally on the verge of tears after seeing the first episode of BW for the first time when it aired. I was just like "Pokemon animators, are you really doing this to me? YEARS and YEARS of me supporting the anime and this is what you do to me?"
I really lost all hope when I saw Ash losing to a snivy and said "fuck it, it might get better" and watched a few more episodes and literally gave up. I was seriously saddened at the fact that the animators were really trying to make Ash do a 100% reset back to OS Ash without him winning a single league.
Guess what? I'm fucking glad BW flopped shit because if it succeeded that would've meant that BW Ash would've continued to a Johto Ash 2.0 if we were going by patterns.
TL;DR:
Ash development wasted. I almost cried at how I was almost betrayed. BW can never be forgotten.
