Same reasons for interest, as well. Pokemon was a comfort to me as a kid and gave me a feeling of achievement and exploration.
One of my fondest moments was beating the league for the second time; I had beaten it in Red, with a bit of my brother spoiling quite a bit in order to try to help me, so it felt a bit hand-holdy as a result.
In Silver, I remember sitting on the couch at night with my little gameboy wormlight. My dad had fallen asleep watching Back to the Future. Beat the league, I quietly yelled "Yes! Yes!!" to myself. It felt good, I felt good. I had achieved something on my own. It lead me to continue doing that in my life.
