>>50111498>Completely understandable. I love getting cards I want, too. But I actually started with the packs because I wasn't having fun just buying exactly what I wanted. If you're always winning, do the wins even mean anything anymore yknow? Personally, I enjoy the thrill. Sometimes I lose, sometimes I win but the losses make the wins that much sweeter. That's fair and I respect that. I still buy packs, too. As you said, there is a certain feeling to the gamble of opening a pack and getting cool cards. Also, plenty of the cards I keep are c/uc/r cards. I don't keep sets, just card art that I like. I'm able to get those cards easily through packs while also having fun and getting lucky.
That being said, the "if you're always winning, do the wins mean anything anymore?" doesn't fit with the way that I look at things. To me, finding a card and getting it is a chase. I'll be interested in a card, and then I'll try and find an excellent copy of it for a decent price. Pretty much all of these cards are out of print, so to try and pull a card naturally, like that Mewtwo Star, would be prohibitively expensive (and financially impossible for most people that aren't getting paid to do so) since Holon Phantoms packs are hundreds of dollars each.
But finding the card, seeing its mint, and getting the card is a huge thrill and a huge win. I just put a card into my collection whose numbers are only decreasing day by day. And now I have it securely forever. That knowledge and feeling is unrivaled.
