Children still play pokemon but they don't finish the games. They can't be bothered to catch legendaries or complete the dex, once the league is beaten (or sometimes even before that) they'll move on to something else until a new game comes out where they repeat the process. My siblings know every pokemon by design but often not the name or type because they can't be bothered to remember them.
