He could have been Ash: The storied trainer/champion of Kalos with his girl friend Serena in S/M. Even if it truly is just a gimmick to get people to buy the games it doesnt mean he cant mature in anyway.
But I guess they really have just decided to have him be a 10 year old kid on a never ending journey of autism.
