I'd probably opt for 5 real-time seconds for every in-game minute, but I feel like it'd be an elegant solution to keeping time without RTC support.
This would also allow you to jump to specific times for certain events, and even hold said time for the event's duration. I can already imagine such a feature being used for some interesting overworld encounters and story elements.
Additionally, since it'd be based on the CPU clock speed, overclocking features in emulators could give players even more control.
