If you haven't played PDP:SoD then I highly, highly recommend doing so. It's easily the best Pokemon game I've ever played including the actual mainline Pokemon games. You don't have to know fucking anything about touhou to play it.
You can pick any mon in the game to be your starter and every single mon is viable in some way thanks to each one having 3 unique evolution paths.
