Reminder, anyone who says it's "art style" is fucking stupid, and has no taste or knowledge about the simplest fundamentals of art or game design.
Things wrong with the game's art:
>No basic understanding of color theory or color harmony on any of the textures. Baked shadows are tinted with black, and they just color assets whatever color they feel like.
>Souless assets created with the bare minimum level of thought. No personality. No care. No detail.
>Mismatch in texture detail, some objects or textures have detail, like the grass, while other objects are just covered in flat smooth gradients without a single bit of texture (texture as in visual information).
>Bad lighting on every object in the game (nothing casts shadows on themselves, and they are all shaded with the same ugly greyscale rather than colors to match the ambient environmental lights of any area)
>The devs don't know what the fuck normal maps are, or if they do they're just being too lazy to implement them for better texture and shadow detail
It's clear that they not only chose this style because of how fast and easy to produce it would be, but also because they either do not have any basically skilled artists working on the project, or they do not care enough to put in the bare minimum amount of effort.
To someone who is teaching themselves these skills, this game is a fucking insult.
Here's a screenshot I painted over when I was thinking of simple ways they could fix the garbage they currently have. They could do without the outlines, and some of my colors and values could use work, but I did this yesterday in an hour and I'm colorblind, and I don't want to spend any more time on it. The changes I made are ones they could implement easily to the existing assets by batch filtering textures, or touching up some of them by hand, and fixing the way the characters are lit, and adding some minor things like atmospheric depth with a slight fog or filter.
Fuck ILCA.
