Venusaur is a fucking perfect design and just because it isn't a drastic change every stage doesn't mean it isn't good.
Gen 1 is revered because the designs that were good are fucking fantastic. Some of the best designs to this day are STILL from gen 1. They're extremely enduring designs.
Are there shitty designs? Of course. There's shitty designs in every gen.
The reason that /vp/ tries to pretend like this isn't the truth is because being anything even close to a gen 1 fan is a capital offense here. /vp/ loooves being contrarian, and as genwunners are cancerous to the Pokémon community they go out of their way to go against that.
It's not a bad thing to prefer gen 1 designs, you're only a genwunner when you say "newer Pokémon aren't REAL POKEMON everything after gen 1 is shit" and shit on others for enjoying current Pokémon.
90's monster design may not be your cup of tea and that's fine but don't pretend like Pokémon like Charizard, Gyarados, Nidoking/queen, Mewtwo, Alakazam, Scyther aren't 10/10 designs. These designs are going to stand the test of time.
My favorite generation designwise is 4th gen so don't even start with any dumb accusations.
