GSC is good as a closure to RGBY but the story is carried by the characters. RGB is basically the opposite of that and Yellow is either love it or hate it because it gets too fanfiction-y. Emerald tried to be Yellow and failed. I liked FRLG but it's basically the same as GSC. DPPt is nice but doesn't really feel like a story about the games and, from what I've seen, neither does BW/B2W2. I have no idea about XY and later.
