>>36648899LGPE isn't Pokemons equivalent of their "Big switch title" the same way BoTW, Odyssey or Smash Ultimate was/will be, it's a filler game that is trying to take advantage of whatever hype is left from the Pokemon GO craze that has probably been developed in a hurry.
I'm not going to claim Gen 8 is going to be so ground breaking that it matches up to any of the aforementioned games, but I at least have a shred of hope that it will because;
Gen 7 was clearly cut short, while I enjoyed SM and USUM even more, USUM was clearly thrown together while using as little resources as possible, and we never even got a sniff of the Gen 4 remakes - this leads me to believe that probably some time during the Gen 7 development cycle Nintendo told Gamefreak that they're releasing a console that combines the handheld and home console experience and that they want Pokemon to move to that, and so Gamefreak have very likely been developing Gen 8 with the Switch in mind since before USUM was even released. This is all just speculation of course, but look at that other GF game coming out, "Town", while the art style probably isn't for everyone, the actual visual quality is much higher than LGPE because the game size (taking place all in one town) meant they didn't have to spend years making amazing assets for an entire region, which would have to be the case for Gen 8, but with LGPE they were able to just retain a somewhat "call back" style upgrade to the Gen 1 layout, leaving a lot of creativity and innovation out of the mix.
But anyway, TL;DR - LGPE most likely won't reflect the actual quality of the Gen 8 titles and shouldn't be treated as if it's supposed to be GF's answer to something like BoTW
