You're talking about strategy but Ash literally pulled that stuff such as with Grant and his Rock Tomb, and Clemont with his Heliolisk to the point where he was even teaching Clemont about Heliolisk's habits as a Pokemon.
You literally tried changing the goalpost and even then you're still trying to prove there was some reset even when stuff points to him actually having experience. Pic related, the moment Ash found out about Grant's Rock Tomb before he starts working out a strategy to beat it.
