FireRed was smooth and painless (only relevant mons listed in the box). Lessons learned:
>Fearow is a late-game god if you keep it alive
>Kanto leaders have very common answers. Surge and Koga were the only two leaders that I needed more than 1 pokemon for (not listed on sheet: Primeape soloing Brock, Vileplume soloing Misty.)
>Not having a rock or steel-type early meant I was playing around Rattata/Raticate hyper fang for the entire early/mid-game. pray for Geodude in mt. moon.
>Lance will almost dumpster you no matter how prepared you are for him. I thought about sacrificing Golem but took a risk to keep everyone alive. A crit outrage on Vaporeon would've ended my run.
>berries will save you. An opponent wasting 1 turn on sleep/paralysis can win you battles easy, especially with substitute or rest. I had the foresight to put a rawst berry on Golem in case Blue's Arcanine's flamethrower got the 10% burn on the switch-in, and it did! I forgot i had a cheri berry on magneton for lance's dragonair (it never t-waved me), but i forgot alakazam had synchronize so it saved me from my own t-wave.
This was a nice quick run after losing White at the last N battle. I think it's Y-version next - I haven't played on cart in a while and play G4-G5 pretty frequently. I need one or two more easy ones before I try White again.
