>>52926622>If you’re trying to appreciate these games now (and make a judgment on whether or not they’re difficult) by intentionally doing the same thing, I think you’ve probably got the wrong ideaIf game is only challenging if you do X, Y, or Z, then the game's isn't challenging at all. A well balanced game doesn't have the player purposefully and arbitrarily limit themselves to have even a halfway even playing ground between them and the challenge the game puts forth. By saying that you "got the most" out of the game by abstaining from using tools the game gives you you're already admitting that it's easy, whether you mean to or not.
This reminds me a whole fucking lot of Elden Ring discussion before shit like Hoarfrost Stomp and summoning were nerfed. People were so fucking obsessed with the idea that the game HAD to be difficult that they started accusing people that used tools the game itself put forth of somehow cheating the system and succeeding through unfair means. Those people were, rightfully so, fucking laughed at-it's one thing to find value in limiting yourself in a challenge, but diminishing someone else's play because they chose not to is ludicrous given they're just using the toys the devs left in the playpen.
