>>22607406It's really hard to make a pokemon story with any sort of depth without it coming off as edgy. It's just such a bright and cheery franchise that's so historically void of story and the visual style is so inhospitable to one that changes like that tend not to work. I hope one day there'll be a story that's upbeat/goofy/funny enough to work but has some depth, too.
