When you beat gen2 it has the same worthless endgame as rby pretty much, just fill the dex and nothing else. Except the elite four are even lower than in RBY. You literally need stadium 2 for any kind of long term playability. Gen 3 was miles better, at least it had contests and battle tower in the base versions.
