The entire opening after you get your pokemon is scripted. The game is so poorly made that you cannot interrupt gameplay. So sadly, we missed a rival fight with Victoria (the female protagonist) who had a Tepig.
There was an instance of a gender specific line: after Victoria sees that Cain and I had our battle, she claims "Oh Notm, I didn't know you were like that!" If you play as a male, she says "Oh Notm, Cain can be a bit flirty at times.."
