MOST IMPORTANTLY, and this is often overlooked, remakes establish Gens happening at the same time.
Gen 1 is happening at the same time as 3, 2 and 4, ect.
If this was a simple remake, gen 1 would take place around the same time as 3 AND 6, but the references to Blue in Kalos suggest it took place AFTER Gen 1, because Blue is traveling the world. Lastly, the last time we see the Hoenn cover legends is in Johto. Steven Stone tells the player that he will meet them again one day.
For this reason, I believe that Alpha/Omega arent remakes, but rather sequels, set in a new location, continuing the story started in FR/LG (FR/LG -> HG/SS -> A/O) so that all the remakes are connected.
