I actually want to limit Pokemon since in the setting it's rare for trainers to raise a lot, so reserves are actually Pokemon I would have given if I had no limits.
I also limited 'starter' Pokemon, everyone has a most one. If I give him more I decided I'd give him one of each type.
I was trying to go for a slight water theme, but he also tends to like Psychic and Dark types. Make of that what you will.

I really liked Greninja as the starter choice, for being protean, frog in a well analogies which is why he wants to break out and travel which the rest of his primary team also shows, and other frog associations like change, renewal and a safe journey. Also, Over the Garden Wall
Making this made me miss Japan even more. I went to Hokkaido recently and that was enough to make me full weeaboo. I want to backpack there one day.
