I dunno where did you get that, he didn't forgot how to love his pokemon. He couldn't master the A-G form because he was starting to be insecure. Ash practically lived in an environment where everyone idealized him, and when he found himself a character, who until a few days ago was a rookie compared to him, suddenly becoming so strong he felt desperate to win and reach him. He had grown impatient and A-G doesn't work if their desires aren't in sync.
