It doesn't matter if the exp share is on or not, the game is easy because nobody has enough pokemon. The eighth gym leader should not have had just three pokemon. The elite four shouldn't have had just four pokemon each. And the final boss shouldn't have had both the fossils in her team. It's painfully weak to fighting.
