>the following events take place in a two part special>Ash's adventure in Kalos comes to an end as he's tasked to take the Zygarde cores to a new shrine>said shrine is located inside a cave in certain location in the Alola region>Bonnie isn't allowed to take Squishy so she entrusts Serena to take care of it as Bonnie and Clemont stay in Lumiose>Serena realizes that she'll be alone with Ash and this might be her last chance to confess her feelings to him>Ash overhears a conversation in which he finds out that Serena loves him>at first Ash doesn't put much thought on it but the more he thinks of it the more confused he feels regarding his feelings for her>so Ash and Serena head to the Alola region>Ash is behaving a lot less upbeat than usual but Serena doesn't understand why which makes her a little worried>they finally arrive at the cave only to be attack by a bunch of native wild pokémon which protect the shrine>Ash is knocked back and remains motionless as Pikachu tries to get him to stand up>then he sees Serena and Braixen trying to scare away the wild pokémon but they're both vastly outnumbered>Ash is impressed by Serena's effort in a battle they're clearly losing as she says won't give up 'til the end>these words cause Ash to have a succesion of flashbacks of his close moments with Serena>Ash realizes that Serena is different to everybody else she isn't just a friend to him>he instantly gets up and runs to cover Serena as he tells Pikachu to use thunderbolt and then yells at the wild pokémon>he tells them that he's tasked with bringing the Zygarde cores to a new shrine to rest which makes the wild pokémon stand back and leave>Ash thanks Serena for helping him "yet once again" as Serena blushes and says it was nothing>finally Ash and Serena leave the two cores at their new home and leave the cave
