While gardevoir was meant to be based of guardian angel (pokedex entry, shares egg group with ghosts) also they gave some grace (because in most cases angels are graceful) to fit angelic design more.
Probably when gardevoir had its debut in first 3 gen games it wasn't meant to be waifubait (that can be reason why wally had male gardevoir on RSE but changed to gallade in ORAS).
