Contrary just performs much better in the end than an ability like Overgrow as long you have access to a move that debuffs your stats. However even when NFE, Snivy learns leafstorm quite late only at level 43, level 52 as Servine, and level 62 as Serperior. On the contrary, Leafstorm (130 BP) is her strongest grass type attack she has access to besides Frenzy Plant, and is an attack that raises special attack sharply in contrast to Sword Dance or Coil being not an attack. However having contrary means she won't be able to use coil or sword dance, and therefore not be able to use leaf blade, aerial ace, iron tail or aqua tail as well as an Overgrowth one. And attack or special attack stat buffs are quite important for her as she needs decent offensive stats to compliment her great speed.
