Kind of an odd question, and probably a bit off topic here but I think this is the best general to ask.
So here's the quick rundown, I've been working on and off on a fan game, it's not a romhack or anything like that. It's an RPG maker game that I've been working on the side for a bit, I chip at it little by little due to work and life in general. It's a bit out there but it's something I wanted to do for a while. It takes CRPG elements as their inspiration, think old school Fallout while being restricted by the engine I'm using so it's also your standard jrpg fare in combat. But here's a screenshot of what I mean by crpg elements and a very bare scope atm, having skills that influence dialogue and quests. I was inspired by the OG Fallouts for this project, and it's combining Pokemon and crpgs which are two things I like. Everything is still at the planning stage but I wanted some feedback.
Now the reason I posted here is because there's no humans in setting so I'd wager I would ask the closest general that's knowledgeable on the subject. Mind you, I haven't played any of the PMD games but I saw a LP of it so there's a framework on a world of Pokemon only for me to study.
So here's what I want to ask. Would it better to have dice rolls for skill checks like WotR or just a static skill check like in Fallout New Vegas? What would be a good core of available Pokemon as playable characters? I'm not aiming for an epic here, just a small project for now. What would be 4 or 5 good Pokemon species to start with as base pokemon for a playable character?
I apologize if this is the wrong thread for it.
