This was gonna be a hard pill to swallow regardless of when it happened, but it's smart of GF to have gone and done it now.
By doing this horrible shit early on, they're setting up for this to blow over by the time the games release. They just started their hype cycle for the game and will likely drop new pokemon and information every month for the next 5 months.
GF will keep releasing new information and while the adamant boycotters scream at everything new, the normies and casuals will just see the new shit and start to think "well, maybe it's not so bad" which is exactly what GF wants.
I give it 3 months before the only people left boycotting the game are seen as angry little autists trying to ruin other people's fun. By exposing their weakness this early on, GF has taken the first napkin and are poised to control this whole situation.
