>B-but muh gen 1 and 2Those are the only exceptions. You couldn't trade GSC Pokemon with RSE Pokemon. However, you could trade RSE Pokemon with ones from FRLG. Two way trading was not possible between RSE/FRLG and DPPt/HGSS, two way trading was not possible between DPPt/HGSS and BW/2, etc.
