I played FRLG, never touched the OGs and I'm already a quarter into HGSS. Directly comparing FRLG to Emerald, it feels like the former got hit harder with the ugly stick, but I did enjoy the game regardless. The flashback feature was cute but I could see why it eventually grated. I definitely appreciated some abilities pokemon had (fukkin love Clear Body) and despised a few others (Levitate), and the only bad moveset I had to deal with was Venusaur's. It's definitely something I'd play again in a different direction someday, but maybe in a revisit I'd play the originals just to see what theyre like.
