People like to compare this to doom eternal however how many models are there in doom eternal ? 10 ? 20 Max.
And the game simply copy pasts the same model this is why you fight 5 imps and they all have the same model.
Especially if we are talking about having all the mons fight at random. You can do clever code tricks to hide this like loading only the handful of mons that are in a given region and switch region while walking or fast traveling where the fast traveling animation hides the loading of mons from SD to ram.
However pokemon will at some point hit its ultimate limit for the max number of mons it can ever have and it will either need to think about this since modeling 1 million mons will not be feasible for any company.
Not defending GF however there are some limitations, in my opinion they should never have given 150 new pokemon every generation and should have only given like 20 or 50 if you count the pre evolutions. Especially that I feel that some pokemon ideas feel rushed or needed to be redesigned.
