As far as the anime goes, whatever the Western audience likes, the Japanese audience hates or is indifferent to, and vice-versa.
That's probably why they'll never make a full series like Origins in Generations; it wouldn't be popular enough in Japan to warrant it, judging by the lukewarm reception Origins got, and the current anime is still doing its job of selling merchandise.
