They actually brought that one back, expanded it slightly with dawn/dusk and lighting differences throughout the day, and there's no reason to believe it will suddenly disappear again. We have every reason to believe anything else remotely fun will disappear, like contests, secret bases, the underground, DexNav, interesting battle facilities (battle royals probably arent coming back, but I think Triples might), minigames like Mantine Surfing or National Park bug-catching contests, and still more
I'm curious to see if SOS Encounters are dropped completely, or reworked into something else. Like how wild-doubles became horde encounters, which then became SOS encounters. It could just end there, for all we know. Given GF's track record I am unwilling to rule out the possibility of HMs returning.
