My secret: I'm the type of person that OP is afraid of. My "best friend" is just some girl who's been following me around like a second shadow since the start of my 1L year. She regularly gifts me homecooked meals and poke merch, which makes me feel guilty about not liking her as much as she likes me. I am apparently the first person in her life with whom she's shared her entire life story (which is honestly not that compelling - she's the spoiled yet lonely child of a foreign business magnate), but she's too self-absorbed to realize that I've never reciprocated with any information about my own life. Our friendship is very much one-sided.
The professional community I work in is too small to risk pissing her off, so my plan is to just coast along until she finds herself a boyfriend who actually cares about her.
