They can't refuse us and are worth less than a regular person, and are thus closer to...toys, say, than people. There's nothing wrong with getting rough with a pokemon, even killing them if your play gets a little rough! By no means do their souls carry the weight of a human life.
Just yesterday, for example, I lacerated and strangled five Audinos I'd purchased over the weekend. While this may seem brutish, legally they belonged to me, and morally there was nothing wrong with it! For so Arceus Himself said, when He fashioned Man and Pokemon:
"The greatest joy and purpose that any Pokemon may experience, lies in its service to Humanity," Amen.
Let's not confuse Pokemon with people, please, therein lies only chaos, and an upset to the Alpha's carefully crafted natural order.
