I haven't done the math, but I feel like the trade-off of both an item and an ability for more raw power might not be worth using Gardy as my mega, when it could be plenty useful with Trace and some kind of Trick strategy. Hopefully, we will get tutors back in OR/AS and I can switch things up then.
