Seeing as Oak invented the pokedex later in his life, what would be the best alternative to it? A book Oak puts a checkmark on and writes footnotes on it with things like habitat or stuff like that? I want to think that the book has only a description of the mon but once you capture it your character draws it on one of the empty boxes, it'd be kinda kino.
Makes me wonder if it'd also be an interesting thing to see why Oak is so adamant on not letting people go without pokemon, maybe he got attacked at the start of his own? Maybe instead of team rocket and stuff, it's more akin to him accidentally getting neck-deep into the war while doing his pokemon studies rather than a friendly adventure?
