Honestly I wish some of the details made it into the actual anime. Delia being a bit resentful that she never got to be a trainer was a nice detail, but it’s still really clear that she loves Ash above all else. I also like that a Pokemon Master is more clearly defined rather than Ash’s vague version of it in the anime and it gives more context why both him and Gary always state they’re from Pallet Town.

In the anime novel, Delia hates both her dad and husband for abandoning her to be Pokemon trainers when Ash was very young. She also hates that she never got to go on a Pokemon journey herself because she was forced to take care of her family's restaurant and Ash.

Reading it made me appreciate Ash's mom a lot more and why he thought about her in a lot of the episodes in the first season.

The novel does say they got married pretty quickly after they fell in love. It's kind of nice to think that Ash isn't ashamed to come back home after he loses unlike his dad and grandpa (although they never even qualified for top 10 000)
I really wish all this stuff about Delia, Pallet Oak and the other stuff mentioned about Pallet Town made it into the anime since it would better explain why Ash always mentions he's from Pallet Town, Trip's attitude against Pallet Town, and even Ash's goal of becoming a Pokemon Master (although the motivation and what a Pokemon Master is has changed as the series has been going on)
