Are starters losing their charm? Back in Gen 1 there were 3 starters in a pool of 151, and they were very iconic. But with each new generation, there are 3 more starter families added, but since less than 151 new mons total are added, the ratio of starters to total pokémon draws closer, so they feel less special each time. Same can be said for previously "rare" types like dragon-type I suppose. Initially there was only a single dragon-type evolution family in a pool of 151, but with each new generation they add multiple families of dragons yet less than 151 total new pokémon, which further dilutes their previous uniqueness.
